Tom Cruise's epic lip sync battle with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” this Monday makes him the latest celebrity to face off against the show host in a video that has garnered nearly a half-million views.
The clip features Cruise, 53, and Fallon, 40, dueling against one another as they each busted some impressive moves and nailed the lyrics of a four-song set before an enthusiastic audience.
“This is so ridiculous,” Cruise said, laughing before the lip sync competition even began,
according to ET Online. “I love it!”
But Cruise took the competition seriously as he opened up the set with a passionate rendition of The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” in which he ran his fingers through his hair, flung the microphone stand around, and ended with a 360-degree spin. Fallon followed up with an impressive rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Undercover of the Night,” in which he nailed Mick Jagger’s famous strut,
according to Us Magazine.
Cruise came back with Meat Loaf’s duet, “Paradise by Dashboard Light,” in which he belted out both the male and female parts, jerking his head dramatically from side-to-side – but not before removing his suit jacket and asking Fallon to hold it for him as he rolled up his sleeves.
“Why am I even trying?” Fallon asked the audience, laughing,
according to the New York Daily News.
Fallon did come back strong, however, with a rendition of the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” in which Cruise joined him as they crooned to a woman in the audience, hearkening back to Cruise’s role in “Top Gun,” where he, as Maverick — and Anthony Edwards as Goose — serenaded Kelly McGillis’ character. Cruise kissed the woman’s hand and Fallon toyed with her hair, much to the audience’s delight.
Cruise has been recently promoting his newest film, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” which premieres in theaters on Friday.
