James May and Richard Hammond, co-hosts of the BBC automotive show “Top Gear,” have refused to continue on the show while co-host Jeremy Clarkson is suspended.
Clarkson was suspended earlier this month for allegedly punching a producer in the latest controversy involving the outspoken host, who has a reputation for frequent offensive comments.
A BBC executive
told the Mirror that the network was in talks about finishing the final "Top Gear" episodes of the season without Clarkson while an investigation into the allegations against him continues.
“They didn’t want to do it without Jeremy so the talks didn’t get off the ground,” the unnamed source said, according to the Mirror. "There is a feeling that it is all of them or none of them.”
On Friday, Clarkson posted on Twitter about a coming decision about his standing with the show.
“Our priority has to be the person who has allegedly been attacked, but we are between a rock and a hard place in all of this,” the Mirror’s source said. “There is no way everyone is going to be happy whatever is decided.”
A
Change.org petition launched by Guido Fawkes to reinstate Clarkson on the show received its millionth supporter on Friday.
Supporters drove a tank to BBC headquarters on Friday with someone dressed as “Top Gear” test driver The Stig holding a
box labeled “One Million Signatures,” the Independent reported.
