The top toys of 2015 have been announced by the National Retail Federation to see which one will replace the Rainbow Loom as this year's winner.
Voters — including consumers, media members, retailers, and Toy Industry Association members — will now select the top toys over 12 categories, with the winners to be
announced in February, Sportact.net reported.
"The TOTY Awards celebrate the creative spirit of the North American toy industry and represent a broad array of skill-building playthings that enrich the lives of children around the world," Carter Keithley, president of the Toy Industry Association, said in a statement.
"The awards program also supports the philanthropic work of the Toy Industry Foundation, which partners with generous toy companies throughout the year to bring brand-new toys to children in need."
Toy experts said earlier this year that custom-built and "zombie-inspired" toys seemed to be the new
trends in the industry, according to Playground Professional News.
"Personalization and open-ended play are definitely the buzz words of 2014," Adrienne Appell, a Toy Industry Association trend expert, told Playground Professional News. "Whether kids are building with classic blocks, designing their own dolls, playing in virtual worlds, or 'mashing up' play patterns, toymakers are giving them more freedom than ever to play exactly how they want."
"Best of all, these value-packed playthings come at a variety of price points — we are seeing a great selection of both splurge-worthy items and very affordable toys to fit any budget," she continued.
