Trace Adkins Leaves Alcohol Rehab to Be With Ailing Father: Report

By    |   Thursday, 30 January 2014 07:20 PM EST

Country music star Trace Adkins has checked himself out of rehab so he can be with his ailing father, TMZ reports.

Adkins checked himself in to a rehab facility about two weeks ago after getting into a fight with a Trace Adkins impersonator who was singing at a karaoke bar on a country cruise to Jamaica. TMZ says Adkins had been sober for about 12 years before falling off the wagon.

“Thing is, what makes this story ridiculous is that he got into a fight with a Trace Adkins impersonator who was singing some Trace Adkins karaoke at the time, and that ... well, that is just seriously beyond epic,” wrote the Houston Press.

Adkins was the headline performer on the cruise, which ran from Jan. 12-19. He checked himself into rehab once the ship docked in Jamaica.

The Daily Mail quoted an Adkins representative as saying at the time, “Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family’s privacy will be respected.”

Various media reports said the rehab facility is in Florida. There was no report on where his father is, but TMZ wrote Adkins’ dad “is seriously ill and he felt he needed to be at his bedside … immediately.”

The website said Adkins has asked his therapists in Florida to put him in contact with counselors near his dad.

TheBoot.com notes that Adkins’ tour schedule shows a clear calendar until May 30 when he’s scheduled to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Miss. His next appearance after that is at the Wyoming State Fair on Aug. 12.

Aside from his music career, the Louisiana-born Adkins is known for his Wounded Warrior commercials and winning the seventh season of Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.
