Before becoming a producer, McKeown worked as a hairdresser. In recent years, McKeown produced the Broadway musical "Lennon" with Yoko Ono, and "Jerry Springer the Opera" at London's National Theatre. "Springer" won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

The couple met in 1983 and would have celebrated their 30th anniversary on Friday. They have two children, Mabel and Johnny.

Mabel McKeown tweeted the news, as well as thanked a cancer research facility, Prostate Cancer UK, for giving her father more time.

Some on Twitter sent their condolences.
