Mechanical problems left 252 passengers stuck on an Amtrak train in Connecticut for about five hours on Tuesday.

Train 173 was traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C., when it became disabled near Greenwich, Conn., an Amtrak spokeswoman told The Associated Press. A replacement train also had mechanical problems, and Train 173 had to be towed back to Stamford.

The train was scheduled to arrive in New York at 3:17 p.m., but passengers, who told the AP they were stranded without air conditioning, water, or toilets, didn’t arrive there until about 8:30 p.m.

The train broke down at about 2:30 p.m.

Once in Stamford, passengers were transferred to Train 175, which also was delayed for about 45 minutes, according to CBS New York.

Passengers took to Twitter to voice their complaints.
