A woman identified as Trina Heisch was found decapitated inside her Phoenix home over the weekend in a grisly scene that involved her husband and two dogs.

The victim’s neighbor, George Loney, knocked on Heisch’s door around 10 a.m. Saturday after noticing that he hadn't seen Heisch or her husband for a few days. Loney said he regularly checks on his neighbor and her husband, whom she reportedly met in a mental-health facility.

“Like every other day I go check on them,” Loney told Fox 10 Phoenix. “They are mentally ill. [I] went to go check on him . . . he answered the door; he was naked and there was blood everywhere, so I called the cops.”

Loney described the horrific scene, saying that the husband appeared to have amputated his own arm and was also missing an eye. Loney immediately returned home and called the police.

“It looked like a massacre in her kitchen,” he told Fox 10.

Once authorities arrived on the scene, they found the 49-year-old woman’s decapitated body along with those of her mutilated dogs.

“The female victim was located in a walk-in closet in a bedroom of the home,” Sergeant Trent Crump told Fox 10. “Our officers saw several knifes inside. It is unknown at this point what was used.”

The suspect was taken to the hospital after he told police that he had killed three family members. Authorities are checking on all of the victim’s and suspect’s family members, but believe the suspect was referring to his wife and their two pets.

"It was an absolutely horrific scene," Crump said, according to Arizona Central. "These two have a history of a domestic-violence relationship.”

The 43-year-old man had been arrested in 2003 after attempting to kill a family member. Heisch had been arrested in March on allegations that she had tried to stab her husband.

“Regardless of her condition she was a Christian lady and she always tried to do the right thing,” Loney said of his late neighbor, reported Fox 10. “She left behind a lot of friends and family.”

Even knowing the couple’s history, Loney admits the situation is shocking.

“I never thought he would kill her,” he said. “I never thought that would happen in a million years.”

Heisch’s daughter is trying to raise money for a funeral service and cremation for her mother.

“My mother Trina was found murdered July 25, 2015. We are trying to collect enough funds for her cremation and any services we have for her. Please help fund us to give her the services she needs. please we are asking everybody for their help. she will be greatly missed,” reads a description on the Gofundme page, the Daily Mail reported.
