True Food Kitchen and Oprah Winfrey have joined forces in a partnership that could see the health-conscious restaurant chain double its store count in the next few years.
Specific terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but The Hollywood Reporter said Winfrey has made an equity investment in True Food Kitchen and will also join the brand's board of directors.
True Food Kitchen confirmed the partnership in a post to Facebook, stating it was "proud and incredibly excited" for Winfrey to join the team.
The talk show host is known for investing in the health industry, previously staking a claim in Weight Watchers and joining its board of directors.
Now her latest endeavor with True Food Kitchen could dramatically accelerate the brand's growth from 23 locations in 10 states to double that by 2021, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Winfrey was introduced to the restaurant chain by her trainer and friend, Bob Greene.
She said she was immediately impressed with "the team's passion for healthy eating and, of course, the delicious food, that I knew I wanted to be part of the company's future," CNN Money noted.
True Food Kitchen CEO Christine Barone described Winfrey as "an incredibly accomplished businesswoman" who they were "lucky" to have as an investor and member of the board of directors.
Barone told The Hollywood Reporter that the media mogul was intrigued by the restaurant's atmosphere.
"Every single one of our restaurants is a bit different and integrates itself into the local community," she explained. "What was really inspiring was [Winfrey] not only loved the food but felt that sense of community in our restaurant."
