President Donald Trump mocked the Emmy ratings, using Twitter to slam the show that made various jabs at the U.S. president on Sunday.
"I was saddened to see how bad the ratings were on the Emmys last night - the worst ever," he said in a tweet, adding that the "smartest people of them all are the "DEPLORABLES."
TV Line noted that the awards ceremony, hosted by Stephen Colbert, saw a mere 11.38 million viewers tune in to watch the 69th installment of the Emmy Awards. The show drew a 2.5 rating and statistically was a match with last year’s all-time low.
The awards show was brimming with jokes aimed at Trump and his administration, many of which were flung by Colbert himself.
The show’s host kept making references to how Trump did not win an Emmy award for "Celebrity Apprentice."
"I bet if he won an Emmy, he wouldn't be president," Colbert said, according to Pop Sugar.
"Unlike the presidency, Emmys go to the winner of the popular vote."
Colbert continued to blast the president when he remarked to the audience that he thought they "loved morally compromised antiheroes."
Another thorn in the presidential administration’s side was the surprise appearance of former Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who mocked his own reports about the crowd size at Trump’s inauguration.
This was followed by a blow from Alec Baldwin who won an Emmy for his portrayal of Trump on "Saturday Night Live" and said "I suppose I should say at long last Mr. President, here is your Emmy," Fox News noted.
