A Trump hotel in New York City caught fire early Friday morning, but firefighters soon brought the blaze under control at the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan’s upper west side.
The flames began around 4:12 a.m. on the 47th floor of the building when machinery being used in a renovation malfunctioned inside an unoccupied apartment, according to CBS News New York. The building was partially evacuated and the fire was under control by 5:20 a.m., having briefly spread to a second apartment.
According to the New York Daily News, the fire was not believed to be suspicious. One person declined treatment for smoke inhalation due to the fire.
The upper floors were vented to avoid carbon monoxide buildup, according to the New York Post.
“There were like 15 fire trucks and four other emergency vehicles. Our room did smell a little like smoke,” Mimi Borowich, a librarian, visiting from Florida, told the Post. “We were not asked to leave. It was very unusual. We were concerned.”
Borowich said she was awakened by emergency alarms Friday.
The condo tower has 166 apartments that feature hotel-style service, a health club, pool, steam room, and other amenities, the Post reported.
Twitter users wasted no time discussing the fire.
