Donald Trump's New York Times tweets on Sunday that dinged the newspaper's coverage of him were posted the same day the president-elect was on "60 Minutes" promising to keep his Twitter use in check.
Trump told CBS News in an interview taped Friday for Sunday's news magazine "60 Minutes," that he would be "restrained" in his used of Twitter.
In a second tweet, Trump claimed that the newspaper's leaders sent a letter to its readers "apologizing" for its "bad coverage" of him during the campaign.
CNN media critic Brian Stelter said Trump mischaracterized the letter from Times' publisher Arthur Sulzberger to subscribers on Friday.
Times media reporter Sydney Ember posted the letter on Twitter Friday.
"... We also approach the incoming Trump administration without bias," Sulzberger wrote in a Twitter message on Sunday in response to Trump's criticism. "We will cover his policies and agenda fairly. We will bring expert analysis and thoughtful commentary to the changes we see in government, and to their ramifications on the ground."
The newspaper also pushed back at Trump's assertion that the newspaper was losing subscribers in a tweet of its own.
