A Trump supporter surprised a waitress at a Washington D.C. eatery with a $450 tip and a warm message on Monday while he was town for President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Dentist Jason White and two of his friends came from Texas to attend the festivities and stopped for lunch Monday at Busboys and Poets. Their waitress, Rosalynd Harris, could tell that they supported Trump and wasn’t sure what to expect, she told The Washington Post.
She recalled the three men seemed out of place at the eatery, where African-American art decorates the walls and a desire for social justice permeates the very atmosphere. But Harris was on a cloud after attending the Women’s March over the weekend, and the men chatted and joked around with her, White even complimenting Harris’s smile, the Post reported.
When the men left, Harris was stunned to discover a personal note and a $450 tip on the $72 bill.
“We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues,” White wrote, “but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!”
White is a devout Christian who said he doesn’t agree with everything Trump says, but believes he will change the country for the better. He told The Washington Post he was so moved by both the inauguration and the Women’s March that he was inspired to think about how to show love and respect to others.
Harris said White was “more embracing than some of my liberal friends, and there was a real authenticity in our exchange,” the Post reported.
