Tyra Banks has been named as the new host of "Dancing With the Stars' exactly one day after Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews revealed that they would no longer be part of the show.
ABC confirmed on Wednesday that Banks would take over as the solo host and executive producer, according to Fox News. The former super model said in a statement that she was excited to continue Bergeron's legacy. Banks added that she was a fan of the contest's approach of "fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances" which always transported her to her days of "turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk."
Bergeron announced his departure from "Dancing With the Stars," which he hosted since 2005, in a tweet on Tuesday. He did not offer a reason, but hinted that he had no choice in the decision to appear in the upcoming 29th season of the show.
"Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me," the 65-year-old comedian wrote. "It's been an incredible 15-year-run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I'm grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?"
A representative said in a statement to Fox News that the network made the call.
"ABC opted not to pick up Tom's option. In the fine tradition of Hollywood clichés, they're 'going in a different direction,'" the statement reads.
Andrews also announced that she would be exiting the show on social media.
"Thank you ABC and the entire Dancing with the Stars family for 6 memorable seasons," she wrote in a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday. "Those years wouldn't have been as special without my loving host Tom Bergeron, the talented dancers, and witty judges," Andrews wrote. "I will always cherish my days on set, even if I wasn't the best at walking in heels.''
ABC and BBC released a joint statement saying that "Bergeron will forever be part of the 'Dancing with the Stars' family," according to Fox News.
"As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success," the statement read.
