Ratings for "Dancing With the Stars" have plummeted since Tyra Banks took over hosting from Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews and fans are calling for her to be replaced before the show is canceled.
Things got off to a good start when over 8.1 million households tuned in for the Season 29 premiere on Sept.14, but the numbers have been declining dramatically ever since. Within a week, ratings dropped to 6.8 million, reported The Sun.
Last week's episode drew just over 5.8 million viewers, which is the lowest rating the show has seen in several years. In comparison, last season averaged roughly 6.7 million viewers per episode and the lowest rating was 6.4 million.
Fans have blamed Banks for the low ratings.
"Tyra Banks is the worst thing to happen to #DWTS in the history of the show. Ratings are going to plummet and the show is going to be cancelled if she doesn’t get replaced. It’s a disgrace," one Twitter user wrote.
"The cast can't stand her & plummeting ratings will doom the show if she stays," another viewer stated, per The Sun.
"Ratings are going to plummet and the show is going to be cancelled if she doesn’t get replaced. It’s a disgrace," a third claimed.
"Get rid of Tyra Banks already. Epic Failure. Ratings Plummeting. Nobody’s watching!" another demanded.
Banks was named as the new host of "DWTS" exactly one day after Bergeron and Andrews revealed that they would no longer be part of the show. Bergeron announced his departure from the program, which he hosted since 2005, in a tweet. He did not offer a reason but hinted that he had no choice in the decision. Andrews also announced that she would be exiting the show on social media.
