A frail Val Kilmer seen in photos over the weekend renewed concerns about the “Top Gun” actor's health after he was hospitalized earlier this year.
The photos on Radar Online showed the thin 55-year-old in Malibu on Sunday with two scarves around his neck as he walked outside.
The scarves have been a constant accessory for the actor since he has been rumored to be
fighting throat problems, according to the New York Daily News.
The Daily News reported that in January Kilmer appeared to be deliberately hiding his neck while being photographed at two basketball games with a scarf and sweater wrapped around his neck.
According to the Hollywood News Daily, fans became concerned as Kilmer demonstrated an odd appearance, strange behavior, and was seen with “a medical type bag.”
The actor has become more reclusive in recent months. Kilmer was hospitalized in January and February, the first time for a possible throat tumor and then for an unknown emergency in February.
Reports have said Kilmer, who is a practicing Christian Scientist, has declined most medical treatments for the possible throat ailment, which has concerned his family.
TMZ reported in February that Kilmer's family worried that the religion was getting in the way of treatment that would help cure the actor after he was transported to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica.
According to celebrity website, his family said Kilmer had known about the tumor since last summer and has experience trouble speaking and swelling of the neck, causing him to wear scarves and sweaters. The family members said they urged Kilmer to seek treatment, but he refused because of his beliefs. Those who continued to insist he receive medical help were “cut out of” his life.
The actor, however, went on Facebook in February to refute the reports about the seriousness of his illness.
