Vido Loncar, Croatian Boxer, Banned for Beating Ref (Video)

Boxer Vido Loncar was banned for life after viciously attacking a referee at the European Youth Boxing Championships.

According to the New York Daily News, the 18-year-old Croatian slugger was given a standing count by the referee, an unidentified Polish man. Upon returning from his corner to be declared the loser, the ungloved Loncar suckerpunched the ref, knocking him straight to the mat.

The other boxer, Lithuanian Algirdas Baniulis fled the scene, allowing Loncar a few precious seconds to rain down with fists on the helpless man. Then, seemingly all at once, coaches and tournament officials snap to attention, pick their jaws off the floor, and hop into the ring to stop the mad assault.

One man standing outside the ring smartly grabs Loncar firmly by the ankles, yanks him off his feet, and pulls him under the ropes and out of the ring.

The victim, clearly dazed, was so out of it officials decided not to move him from the ring, but rather bring him a chair. Once the group peels him from the canvas and rights him in the chair, he gets a checkup from a medic who's shown up with a big red bag of emergency supplies.

After the incident was over, The Daily Mail reported that Loncar's coach proceeded to defend his fighter's conduct completely without shame.

"I believe that he is not a butcher or as bad as this act makes him look," said Zeljko Mavrovic. "This was part of his excessive ambition in that moment."
