Walker Hayes and his wife are grieving the death of their newborn baby girl, People magazine reported. The 38-year-old country star, who has six children with Laney Beville, shared the news Thursday via social media.
"It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven," Hayes said. "Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve."
Hayes was set to perform at the Kick'n Up Kountry festival on Thursday, as well as America's River Festival on Friday as part of his tour. He canceled all upcoming shows to be with his family, E! News reported.
He was missing from the CMT Awards on Wednesday where he received a nomination for breakthrough video of the year for his single “You Broke Up With Me.”
In a previous interview with People, Hayes spoke excitedly about the birth of his seventh child, saying children were his "favorite things" about his life.
"I love each and every one of these kids and I can’t wait for another one. They’re all so beautiful and incredible, and watching them grow is the best thing I get to do on earth."
