Walmart Shooting: Clerk at Wisconsin Store Wounds Another

By    |   Thursday, 15 August 2013 06:57 AM EDT

A shooting at a Wisconsin Walmart left one employee in critical condition and another in jail Wednesday after the two got into an altercation while on the clock.

Justine Boyd, 46, is facing an attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge after reportedly shooting a liquor store clerk she worked with at a Walmart in Neenah, Wis., Wednesday morning.

The 56-year-old victim, whose name was not released, sustained one gunshot wound to the torso and is listed in critical condition at ThedaClark Medical Center.

It's not yet clear what the motivation for the shooting was, according to Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson.

"I don't know if it was something that just arose today or something that was long-standing," he told Fox 11 News. "We're digging around trying to get that information, but so far, at least, there hasn’t been a simple explanation. The whole thing is really weird."

Boyd has no prior criminal record, according to the Appleton Post-Crescent.

"We are in close contact with [the victim’s] family at the hospital and trying to be as helpful as possible during this difficult time," Walmart said in a statement. "Our commitment right now is to work with law enforcement to provide them any information we have that might be useful for their investigation."

Area residents were shocked at the shooting in their usually crime-free town.

"This is shocking. This is Neenah," resident and shooting witness Lisa Beaudreau told Fox 11 News. "It's not a place where this stuff happens all the time, you know, it's an everyday occurrence. This never happens here. I'm shocked. I bring my kids here."
