White House senior staff was sworn in Sunday during a formal ceremony, including chief of staff Reince Preibus, national security adviser Michael Flynn, and senior advisers Stephen Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, and Jared Kushner.
Kushner, who is married to President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, was supported by his wife and in-laws Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump in the East Room of the White House, Newsday reported.
"The brand new first daughter joined the audience for the event with her blonde hair tied loosely behind her neck and wearing a modest black dress," the Daily Mail wrote about Ivanka Trump "… The appointment (of Kushner) is going ahead after lawyers at the Justice Department claimed that the decision does not violate federal nepotism laws."
Others included in the swearing in were White House press secretary Sean Spicer and Omarosa Manigault, as director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison.
White House staff is not subjected to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
"You are very important, because with you and all the people in this room, we are going to do some great things over the next eight years," Trump said in his remarks at the swearing in, according to a CNN video of the event. "This is a great group of people. And if they're not, we'll let you know about it."
Before giving his remarks, Trump mentioned that he received a personal note from outgoing president Barack Obama.
"It was really very nice of him to do that and we will cherish that," Trump said. "We will keep that, and we won't even tell the press what's in that letter."
Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath after Trump's remarks, Newsday reported, adding that the president shared hugs with several of his senior aides after the ceremony.
