William Shatner is being sued for $170 million in Florida by a man claiming to be his biological son, allegedly born from a brief affair with an actress in Toronto back in the 1950s, according to a lawsuit pounced on by the tabs.

Peter Sloan, 59, filed the lawsuit March 25 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court in Tampa, according to the New York Post's reporting on the court document. The tabloid said Sloan is suing for $170 million and is demanding Shatner take a DNA test.

Sloan said he thinks his mother, Canadian actress Kathy McNeil, met the future star of "Star Trek" while they were both acting on Broadway in 1956, according to the New York Daily News' reporting on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit is claiming damages for libel, defamation, tortious interference, and slander, said the Tampa Tribune.

"I have endured quite a bit over the years and always stayed above the fray in terms of going after him for anything," Sloan told the Tampa Tribune. "There has been a pattern of behavior that makes me look like I am lying and I won't stand for that anymore. I am tired of being called a fraud by his people and him."

Sloan said his mother never told Shatner she was pregnant and that photojournalist George Tilden Orick and his wife Barbara adopted him shortly after birth. The Oricks later divorced and his adoptive mother married John Sloan.

Sloan alleged that Shatner actually admitted being his father in 1984 when they met at the Burbank Studios in California, but he has no proof of the encounter, said the Tribune. He claimed that Shatner said in a phone conversation after the meeting that he could not go public because he was born out of wedlock.

Sloan said he is an estate planner and life insurance broker.

The New York Post reported that a Shatner representative has denied that the actor fathered Sloan.

"Mr. Shatner has three lovely daughters, but no sons," the representative told the Post. "Mr. Shatner is aware of the lawsuit, but there's nothing there because he isn’t his father."
