Willie Geist and Natalie Morales have not been fired from NBC's "Today" show despite rumors that hit the Internet Wednesday.

"NBC's 'Today' has the best anchor team in morning television," NBC News President Deborah Turness told TV Guide in response to a Wednesday report by Us Weekly magazine.

"The entire 'Today' show anchor team — Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Carson Daly, Tamron Hall, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Hoda Kotb — are incredibly talented, valued, and have our support. In response to the false rumors that have been circulated about our anchor team, NBC wants to be absolutely clear: The rumors are wrong — period. This is the team we are committed to. And this is the team that our viewers turn to in the morning."

Us Weekly's "exclusive" report cited an inside NBC source who reportedly said that Geist and Morales "were recently told they were fired" and were currently lining up new gigs at CBS and ABC, respectively.

That report appears to be 100 percent false, but what gave rise to the rumor?

It may have had something to do with Jamie Horowitz, the brand-new general manager of "Today," who was hired by Turness just 10 weeks ago and abruptly fired on Monday, CNN Money reported.

He was reportedly deemed too destabilizing a force, and is reported to have proposed all kinds of shake-ups during a "listening tour" conducted after he got the job.
