A woman will grace the $10 bill by 2020 and the U.S. Treasury is seeking public input on a female historical figure who should receive the honor.
According to law, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew could make the call on his own, but he said he wanted to hear from the public about the choice to replace the photograph of Alexander Hamilton, reported

"America's currency is a way for our nation to make a statement about who we are and what we stand for," Lew said in a
statement released Wednesday. "Our paper bills – and the images of great American leaders and symbols they depict – have long been a way for us to honor our past and express our values."
"We have only made changes to the faces on our currency a few times since bills were first put into circulation, and I'm proud that the new 10 will be the first bill in more than a century to feature the portrait of a woman," said Lew.
The treasury department said that Lew, deputy secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin, treasurer Rosie Rios and other department officials will hold roundtables, town halls and other meetings to collect get ideas for the new $10 bill.
The department will also receive comments through thenew10.treasury.gov and the social media hashtag #TheNew10.
U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who in April called for a woman's face to be placed on a $20 bill, praised Lewis the announcement,
according to The Hill.
"Today, those voices all across the country calling for the contributions of women to be honored on our paper currency, were heard and now change is happening," said Shaheen. . "Young girls across this country will soon be able to see an inspiring woman on the $10 bill who helped shape our country into what is today and know that they too can grow up and do something great for their country."
The group Women on 20s advocated for abolitionist Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill after conducting its a survey that ended in May, noted USA Today. Tubman beat out Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks in the Women on 20s survey.
