A woman’s obituary took a brutally honest turn as her family decided to skewer her for some of her life choices and say what they really thought of her life.

Kathleen Dehmlow’s obituary was published Monday in the Redwood Falls Gazette. It starts out stating facts about her birth date, parents, marriage, and children, but then goes on to say she got pregnant by her husband’s brother and left her children.

“She passed away on May 31, 2018 in Springfield and will now face judgement,” the obituary continues. “She will not be missed by [her children] Gina and Jay, and they understand that this world is a better place without her.”

The newspaper did take down the online version of the obituary from its website after it was spread around the internet and people responded with disbelief that someone would write this way about someone who had died, the Star Tribune reported

Relatives also said there was more to the story than the obituary stated.

“The sad thing about this is that there is no rebuttal. There is more to it than this. It’s not simple,” said Dwight Dehmlow, who did not specify his relationship with the deceased, the Star Tribune reported.

“She made a mistake 60 years ago, but who hasn’t?” he said. “Has she regretted it over the years? Yes.”

Kathleen Dehmlow had lived in a nursing home for about a year, and her sisters were with her when she died, Dwight Dehmlow said, the Star Tribune reported.

Dehmlow, 80, did have some kind things said about her online, despite the harsh words in the official obituary, USA Today reported

“The good Lord loves you more than anyone else ever could. You are in Heaven now with your Savior. R.I.P.,” Linda Mann wrote.

“What a life she lived. Hope you find peace,” another commenter wrote.
