World's Most Expensive Burger Is $1,770 Thanks to Gold Leaves, Caviar

The world's most expensive burger is the Glamburger, a London restaurant's creation that features bits of golf leaf, caviar, and Kobe beef, and boasts a $1,770 price tag.

Chef Chris Large, of London's Honky Tonk restaurant, is credited with building the expensive sandwich in collaboration with Groupon to celebrate the coupon website selling its 5 millionth food-and-drink voucher in the U.K., CNBC reported. The business channel said one lucky diner will be able to sample the burger for free through a contest on Groupon.

According to Groupon, the burger with the hefty price tag is quite hefty itself. It contains Kobe Wagyu beef, New Zealand venison, Canadian lobster, black truffle brie, Iranian saffron, maple syrup-coated bacon, hickory-smoked duck egg, gold leaf-coated brioche bun, Japanese matcha and cream mayonnaise, mango and Champagne jus, and grated white truffle.

"After sourcing the best possible ingredients to create this masterpiece, the winner will certainly have a dinner to remember," Large said in a press release, according to CNBC.

According to Groupon, Record Setter has verified that the Glamburger's price tag makes it the world's most expensive burger.

The dish contains 2,618 calories, which is more than the recommended daily intake for a typical adult male, The Telegraph U.K. noted.

While the Glamburger is the most expensive burger by Record Setter's standards, it is not the most expensive ever. Juicys Food in Oregon earned the Guinness World Record in 2000 for its massive $5,000, 776-pound burger.

Some fans of the Glamburger said on Twitter that they're hoping to win the free version online, considering the price.
