Not everything an Oscar winner touches (or acts in) turns to gold. In fact, sometimes even the top stars get it wrong. Not convinced? Here are nine Oscar winners who have appeared in some real duds, as highlighted by Insider. The critic scores come from Rotten Tomatoes.

1. Anne Hathaway — "Don Peyote" (2014)

Critic Score: 7%

Don Peyote tells the story of an unemployed "stoner" who finds purpose after encountering a homeless man preaching the apocalypse. According to IMDB: "Warren becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories and decides to make a documentary on the subject while his fiancé is busy planning their wedding."

Hathaway comes into the mix as "an agent of TRUTH."  It turns out that even her Best Supporting Actress award for playing Fantine in "Les Misérables" could not save this film from sinking.

2. Leonardo DiCaprio — "Critters 3" (1991)

Critic Score: 0%

There is no denying Leonardo DiCaprio is a good actor, even if it took him years to win his Oscar for portraying Hugh Glass in "The Revenant." Before his fame, DiCaprio was being cast in flops like "Critters 3," which sees the "tiny fur ball aliens" target a Los Angeles apartment tower.

3. Meryl Streep — "Lions for Lambs" (2007)

Critic Score: 27%

Meryl Streep has an extensive career that spans decades and includes numerous accolades including three Oscars, but there were no awards lined up for her role in "Lions for Lambs," which looks at certain consequences behind enemy lines in Afghanistan that involve "a congressman, a journalist and a professor," according to IMDB.

4. Jared Leto — "Basil" (1998)

Critic Score: 0%

Such a low critic score can dent any actor's credentials, including Jared Leto who, despite his Oscar for playing a transwoman in "Dallas Buyers Club," wound up in "Basil."

The film tells of the struggles of a "lonely young aristocrat in turn-of-the-century England" to meet the approval of his "over-bearing, class-conscious father while trying to please the selfish woman he loves," says IMDB.

5. Jennifer Lawrence — "House at the End of the Street" (2012)

Critic Score: 11%

Jennifer Lawrence has built a solid career that includes awards for appearing in "Silver Linings Playbook" but even she gets it wrong from time to time.

Lawrence put up a less than sterling performance in the "House at the End of the Street," which failed to scare viewers with a storyline about a teenage girl who discovers an accident that occurred at the house at the end of her street.

6. Marlon Brando — "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery" (1992)

Critic Score: 7%

It is hard to imagine Marlon Brando, who won two Oscars, starring in a terrible movie but that was the case with "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery."

The movie follows a "Genoese navigator" who "overcomes intrigue in the court of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain and gains financing for his expedition to the East Indies," per IMDB.

7. Matt Damon — "Suburbicon" (2017)

Critic Score: 28%

Matt Damon is regarded as an iconic actor who set a high standard after his performance in "Good Will Hunting," which earned him an Oscar for Best Screenplay.

He has made some questionable appearances over the years but arguably the worst movie he has starred in is  "Suburbicon," which is about a self-destructing "1950s suburban community" that sees one family subjected to a home invasion with "sinister consequences," IMDB notes.

8. Sidney Poitier — "The Jackal" (1997)

Critic Score: 23%

Many of us remember Sidney Poitier for his Oscar Winning performance in "Lilies in the Field." We would prefer not to remember his role in "The Jackal"- a movie that sees an imprisoned IRA fighter freed to "help stop a brutal, seemingly 'faceless' assassin from completing his next job," says IMDB.

9. Angelina Jolie — "Original Sin" (2001)

Critic Score: 12%

Angelina Jolie carved a name for self, and won an Oscar, after appearing in "Girl, Interrupted." Then, just two years later, she appeared in "Original Sin."

Jolie starred next to Antonio Banderas in the movie, which follows the plans of a woman and her lover to con a rich man. The aim was for her to marry him, earn his trust them run away with his money. Then she falls in love with him.
