Among the worst U.S. mass shootings don’t come near the Las Vegas concert massacre that killed more than 50 people and injured more than 400, the deadliest and most injurious in American history, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Here are five of the other deadliest shootings to take place in the U.S.
1. Pulse Nightclub, June 12, 2016 – At least 50 people were killed when Omar Saddiqui Mateen, armed with an AR-15-style assault rifle and a handgun, opened fire at the gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, injuring an additional 53, Vice News reported.
2. Virginia Tech, April 16, 2007 – 32 killed were killed when 23-year-old student and gunman Seung-Hui Cho massacred 27 students and five teachers at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg before killing himself.
ABC News said Cho executed two people before returning to his dorm room to fetch more ammo. He then entered a building on the campus and proceeded to open fire on four classrooms before turning the gun on himself and pulling the trigger.
3. Sandy Hook, Dec. 14, 2012 – 26 were killed, 20 students and six adults, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut by 20-year-old Adam Lanza who shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, before opening fire on the school, CNN reported.
4. Luby's cafeteria, Oct. 16, 1991 – 23 were killed when George J. Hennard smashed his pickup truck through the window of Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, before getting out of the vehicle and shooting 23 people dead.
According to The New York Times, Hennard at some point during the incident was injured by police and put the gun to his head and killed himself.
5. San Ysidro McDonald's, July 18, 1984 – 21 were killed when James Huberty walked into a McDonald's in California armed with a semi-automatic pistol, an Uzi, a 12-gauge shotgun and a bag filled with ammunition, and proceeded to kill 20 people and wound 20 more, the New York Daily News said. Huberty was killed by a sniper shot fired by a member of the SWAT team.
