A detailed, 400-pound cake of Wrigley Field made by the "Cake Boss" for the centennial celebration of the stadium was apparently tossed uneaten in the trash after the event was over.
A Reddit user
snapped pictures of the discarded cake and then wrote about it, drawing a lot of attention to the apparent wastefulness.

Redditor said he was tasked with the job of getting rid of the Wrigley Field cake and was waiting for a forklift.
But as the pictures he posted went viral, the Reddit user deleted his account. Some online expressed concern that he got in trouble for posting about the cake.
Others were just disturbed that the cake was wasted.
“Spend money on a cake and then don't eat it. This is an inadvertent but apt description on the state of the franchise,” urbaneyzcom wrote on Reddit.
A Cubs statement said the team was disappointed in how the cake was used, Redeye Chicago reported. Apparently, after the Wrigley Field event, the cake went to the Field Museum for a charity event.
“The Chicago Cubs are disappointed in how our Wrigley Field display cake was disposed by the Field Museum following our successful charity event,” the statement said. “The team made a decision not to serve the edible portion after the cake was on display outside Wrigley Field for most of the day. Though the cake was mostly made up of non-edible material, it certainly does not excuse how a celebratory cake artfully created by Buddy Valastro and Carlo’s Bakery was handled."
The Field Museum also responded through Redeye, apologizing for what happened. “We value our relationship with the Chicago Cubs,” a spokesperson said.
But as some pointed out online, the cake sat out most of the day. “I'm not a baker, but when cakes are made like this, a special coating is used and it gives it a hard shell I think. It doesn't taste very good, and the Wrigley cake looks like it contained [a lot] of it,” one person said on Reddit.
But another simply posted, “This can’t bring good luck.”
