Wyclef Jean, 47, a well-known hip-hop artist, was briefly handcuffed Tuesday in Los Angeles after he matched the description of a robbery suspect seen near the studio where he was working.

Jean posted a short video message on Twitter early Tuesday morning about the incident, saying, “The LAPD have me in handcuffs for absolutely nothing.”

Jean was detained for about six minutes around 1 a.m. Pacific time as police were investigating a robbery of a man and woman who had been held at gunpoint and beaten on Sunset Boulevard, The New York Times reported.

The robbery victims had reported the suspect was wearing a red bandana, and Jean also was wearing one. Jean’s female manager was driving the car, and both were asked to get out of the car, the Times reported. They were released a few minutes later after Jean’s identity was confirmed and the victims said there was no woman in the getaway car.

Some on Twitter saw fit to use the brief arrest as an opportunity to blast Jean for saying around the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday that he felt MLK fought for “all lives matter,” reviving the controversy that took place at the time of the comments.
