Overcrowded classrooms are a problem throughout America, but not in one Wyoming public school where there is only one student! What’s more, another public school in the state is set to open this fall and will also have only one student, The Laramie Boomerang reported.

Located 60 miles north of Laramie is Cozy Hollow School — a modular classroom that will become the second one-student school in the district. The isolated school lies just a few miles away from another single-student school. The Associated Press notes that isolated Wyoming students are required by law to receive on-site education when it’s impossible to transport them to other schools.

That’s the case for 10-year-old Corinne Gaby who attends Notch Peak Elementary in Albany County. Each day she goes to school and is taught by the school's only teacher, Lisa Geary, according to the Boomerang report.

Corinne and her parents, Jack and Rachel Gaby, live on a 34,000 acre Notch Peak Ranch hidden between the peaks of the Laramie Range. The nearest town is 27 miles from Corinne's house and it would take about an hour-and-a-half drive to reach the closest school.

When Corinne was born her parents were concerned about how they would be able to get their daughter to school each day.

"It was the main reason I was hesitant about having kids," Rachel said, according to The Laramie Boomerang. "I’ve always been in these backcountry places. … I couldn’t teach. I don’t have the patience."

To address the issue, Albany County School District No. 1 administrators agreed to set up a school on the ranch.

"We are so blessed for this opportunity for Corinne," Jack said. "I don’t know another kid who gets to ride their horse to school and bring their dog to school. It’s such a brag on this great state that they want to keep these rural schools."
