Zach Braff and Donald Faison, on- and off-screen best friends who starred in "Scrubs," have offered to make pizza for gay weddings after a pizzeria in Indiana made national headlines last week by saying it would decline to cater such an event.
Braff made his announcement on Twitter to his 1.5 million followers on Friday, and the message has since been retweeted nearly 9,000 times.
Braff's tweet was part of a long-running promotion of his and Faison's epic "bro-mance," which played out on "Scrubs" with jokes, songs, and more.
The actor's comments on gay weddings and pizza referenced a debate that began in the media with Indiana's passage of a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) bill.
Critics of the bill suggested it could be used to sanction discrimination against gay people, prompting Governor Mike Pence to hold a press conference and "fix" the law with an amendment.
Along the way, the family that owns Memories Pizza, a small pizza shop in Walkerton, Indiana, was asked, hypothetically, if they would cater a gay wedding. They said they would serve anyone and everyone in their restaurant, but would decline to cater a gay wedding specifically.
This prompted an outcry from many, including celebrities like singer Miley Cyrus, "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Ellen DeGeneres, Mark Ruffalo, James Van Der Beek, Anna Camp, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ashton Kutcher, and more,
People magazine reported.
Memories Pizza was forced to shut down after receiving death threats, and a
GoFundMe campaign raised nearly $850,000 to cover their expenses during the ordeal.
