Two zebras escaped from a circus in Philadelphia, enthralling social media as they pranced around downtown like so many horses wearing convict stripes.
"All I saw were two cops chasing the zebra," Rashad Smith told
WCAU-TV. "We thought it was a horse."
The zebras bolted from the UniverSoul Circus near the Mann Center for the Performing Arts about 2 p.m. Sunday, said
Philly.com. They made a run for it after completing a performance and being placed in a back lot.
Their freedom was short lived, though, with one being captured after about 20 minutes and a two-mile hoof up City Avenue, police told WCAU-TV.
The second zebra was captured shortly after that, but where and how authorities caught up with the animal wasn't clear.
Sunday happened to the UniverSoul Circus' last day in Philadelphia,
according its website, so perhaps the Zebras thought it was their last chance to remain in the City of Brotherly Love.
The circus is next scheduled for series of shows in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Zebra love blossomed on social media.
Philadelphia police tweeted news of their capture.
