Civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton had the lowest-rated show across the big three cable news networks on Friday evening last week, according to Mediaite.

Sharpton's "PoliticsNation" on MSNBC dropped to an average of just 59,000 viewers in the key age demographic ages of 25-54 during the 6 p.m. time slot.

In the same hour, CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" more than tripled Sharpton's rating with 190,000, while Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier" had nearly seven times as many viewers with 410,000.

Also, Sharpton came in third place in total viewers, with 416,000 viewers compared to 2.312 million for Fox News and 604,000 for CNN, Mediaite reported.

Sharpton has been the center of controversy as the de facto leader of the demonstrations that swept across New York City following the police chokehold death of  Eric Garner in Staten Island.

The protests started in force after the arresting officer was cleared by a grand jury of any wrongdoing in Garner's death.
