Amy Coney Barrett, the newest justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, was administered the constitutional oath of office Monday night at a White House ceremony by Justice Clarence Thomas as President Donald Trump and dozens of invited guests looked on, but she will take a second oath Tuesday before she officially begins her duties on the high court.

Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the judicial oath in a private ceremony Tuesday, according to a press release from the court.

"Upon administration of that oath, she will be able to begin to participate in the work of the Court," the release reads.

A formal investiture ceremony will take place at a special sitting of the court in the courtroom at a later date.

Barrett was confirmed to the court in a 52-48 Senate vote Monday night. She is the first Supreme Court justice not to receive bipartisan support. No Democrats voted for her; they argue a nomination should not have been held until after the Nov. 3 presidential election.

One Republican, Susan Collins, R-Maine, joined Democrats in voting against confirmation.
