Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., had spent his entire career in the public sector, so when he resigned from Congress after a sexting scandal, most people thought he’d spent his days playing stay-at-home dad.
But it turns out
, The New York Times reports, Weiner has been running a successful consulting firm, helping businesses maneuver government red tape.
“I am a good capitalist,” Weiner told the Times, who noted that the one-time defender of government-run healthcare now talks like a Wall Street insider.
“He’s a very quick student,” Harold Gubnitsky told the Times. “He had a natural instinct for it.” Gubnitsky once worked for Weiner client Parabel.
Weiner resigned Congress on June 16, 2011, and on July 7 he announced the creation of his firm Woolf Weiner Associates, which he named after his great-grandfather, an Austrian immigrant.
The biggest regret Weiner has of his new career is not charging enough “I make far less money than I should, with all the advice that I’ve given and how lucrative it’s turned out to be for the companies.”
