Atlanta Awarded Title of America's Redneck Capital

Atlanta Awarded Title of America's Redneck Capital

A prominent real-estate website has awarded Atlanta the title of Most Redneck City in America.

The dubious crown was bestowed on the Georgia capital as the property blog Movoto.com unveiled its tongue-in-cheek Top 10 U.S. cities for rednecks.

Atlanta was followed by Kansas City, Mo.; Oklahoma City; Nashville; Tulsa, and Fort Worth.

Rounding out the Top 10 list was Arlington, Texas; Sacramento; Cleveland; and Mesa, Ariz.
The site used eight criteria to make its selections, zeroing in on those cities with the highest number of high school dropouts; gun and ammo stores; taxidermists; cowboy-boot stores; country radio stations; race tracks, Walmart stores and lawn mower/tractor repair shops.

"The hardest part was narrowing it down,'' the website said.

"You see, rednecks are a surprisingly diverse folk — they love home cookin’, but they love fast food; they love their dogs, but they love their taxidermied animals just the same.''

Movoto also insists that being called a redneck is no longer of badge of dishonor.

"In fact, thanks to Jeff Foxworthy with his hundreds of 'you might be a redneck' jokes, the term has been adopted fondly, proudly, by these tobaccie-spittin’ folk,'' the website said.
