Former President Barack Obama, 55, has plenty of options to bring in a solid income, reports The Washington Post.
He makes $205,700 a year from his annual pension, can command $250,000 or more per speech, and he can bring in plenty of money on future book contracts. He can also go back to teaching, where he would earn anywhere from $150,000 to $200,000.
"We don't know what Obama is going to do, but I'm comfortable saying he isn't going to go out and grab as many high-priced speeches as he can get," James Thurber, director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University, told the Post. "He's going to lean toward book writing, writing his memoirs. He's an intellectual who has had good success with two books and probably will have good success with future books."
Obama said he would take some time off post-presidency, do some writing and spend time with his wife and daughters. He and Michelle also unveiled The Obama Foundation, which will be based in the south side of Chicago and facilitate projects "all over the city, the country and the world."
