Bernard Goldberg: 3 Reasons Liberal Media Are Failing

By    |   Thursday, 05 March 2015 09:47 PM EST

Media critic Bernard Goldberg said there are three main reasons liberal media such as MSNBC can't find an audience: They are preachy, too far left and not the only liberal game in town.

Appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor," Goldberg said liberal news media violate the cardinal rule of all media in that they are not entertaining.

"On prime time MSNBC they lecture us," he said. "I already went to college. I sat through lectures. I didn't find them fun then. I don't want to hear some pedantic lecturer talking to me now."

Whether people love or hate Fox News, it is never boring, Goldberg said. "And whether you love Barack Obama or Bill Clinton, they weren't boring either."

Second, Goldberg said, people tune in to opinion journalism not for information, but to have their own opinions validated.

"I don't think liberal media is really liberal as much as they are far left," he said. "I don't think MSNBC or liberal talk radio reflect liberal opinions. They are too far left, so even liberals don't want to tune in in large numbers."

Third, there are plenty of other places to get left-of-center information, he said. "You can get left of center information almost every place."
