Lanny Davis: Leftist Rhetoric at de Blasio Inauguration Got Carried Away

By    |   Thursday, 02 January 2014 10:53 PM EST

Lanny Davis, former special counsel for President Bill Clinton, isn't surprised at some of the leftist language that came from the podium as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was sworn in Jan. 1.

"We all as progressive Democrats share those goals," Davis said Thursday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File."

Davis did say, however, that some of the rhetoric got carried away.

A minister compared New York City to a "plantation" and prayed for the shackles of "fear, futility and frustration" to be broken.

De Blasio reiterated his campaign promise to ease the gap between rich and poor in the city, including increased taxes on the most wealthy.

"I wouldn't use that kind of language because it is too much we vs. them," Davis said, but dismissed the seriousness of the words that angered many.

"The inverse law of punditry is the heavier the breathing the less the significance there is," Davis said.
