New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says he is getting the finger from New Yorkers while he's watching baseball games, according to the New York Post.

During a speech in Milwaukee, the liberal leader admitted to the audience of Midwesterners that he was jealous of the nice treatment that baseball fans give that city's mayor.

"I had the pleasure of taking in a (Milwaukee) Brewers game with Mayor Tom Barrett last night," de Blasio said. "I was struck by how many people kept coming up to the mayor to thank him for his service.

"I go to quite a few baseball games in my city of New York, and I gotta admit — the reception isn't always that cordial. People recognize me, all right. But oftentimes our exchanges are limited to a few choice words, or even a particular finger!"

Democrat de Blasio has run afoul of many New Yorkers since he came into office,
mainly due to his veiled attack on cops following the police chokehold death of Eric Garner in Staten Island. He also appeared to side with protesters during the racial unrest that swept the city following Garner's death.

A police union official openly blamed de Blasio for the unprovoked murder of two cops in December when the protests were at their height. "There's blood on many hands tonight," said Patrick Lynch. "That blood on the hands starts at the steps of City Hall in the office of the mayor."

The Post said that during the so-called Subway Series between the New York Mets and New York Yankees on Sunday night, fans indicated that if de Blasio wants to get nicer treatment he had better earn it.

"He's the worst," Yankees fan Diane McGrath, 48, a city worker, told the newspaper.  "What kind of reaction does he expect to get?

"He disrespects this city, disrespects the cops in this city, gets booed at their funerals, and seriously expects to get treated nice when he comes to the baseball games? Get out of here. New Yorkers don't forget."

Last year, De Blasio was given a hostile reception by Mets fans on opening day, receiving a chorus of boos before throwing the first pitch at Citi Field. Although he threw the pitch across the plate, he was booed once again as he walked off the field.
