Miami schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho has been picked to lead the nation’s largest school system, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will make it official Thursday, the newspaper reported. He’ll replace retiring chancellor Carmen Farina.
Carvalho has served as superintendent of the Miami-Dade County public schools, the nation’s fourth-largest school system, since September 2008. He started his career as a teacher in Miami, became a principal and was named superintendent nearly 10 years ago, the News reported.
“Alberto Carvalho is a world-class educator with an unmatched track record of success,” de Blasio said in a statement, the News reported.
