A resident at one of the Bronx apartment buildings targeted in early morning raids in the Bronx Tuesday told Newsmax he was "pretty happy" that action is being taken to round up immigrants and take them into custody.
"It's pretty obvious they're illegal immigrants," the man, who identified himself as "Jonathan," commented, reports Newsmax's John Glasgow, reporting on the interview live on "National Report." "There are 15 of them in a one-bedroom apartment."
The man, who said he had been sleeping and did not see the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers conducting the raid, said that as he voted for President Donald Trump and is happy to hear about the deportations.
He also commented that it's "not nice coming home" from work and seeing people hanging out outside his building.
Some of the people living in the apartment, he said, are "illegally squatting" and destroying apartments, including ripping out walls and even toilets.
"We had a break-in on [floor] three a few days ago, they broke into his apartment," the resident said.
But he added that he has considered calling ICE himself, and he's "really happy" the raids are happening.
"I've been seeing prostitutes walking around the streets," he said. "It's just very obvious they're prostitutes walking around. The building got worse the moment these people came in. I don't know how they got in. I don't know how they got into the apartment. They broke into it. They brought all their family."
He added that the immigrants "sit out front smoking weed all day," making it hard for residents to come and go.
"I have a newborn," he said. "I'm walking out with a newborn. It's hard to even get through the stairs because of them, so I'm glad they're gone."
Meanwhile, the resident said he does think immigrants should be deported if they break the law, but if they're "working and not doing certain things" like breaking into apartments or otherwise committing crimes, "I don't see why you should be deported. Something should be worked out."
New Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined federal officers in the early morning raids Tuesday and said one apprehended a migrant who is facing several charges, including kidnapping.
The migrant, reportedly connected to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua that took over an apartment building in Aurora, Colorado, is facing charges of kidnapping, assault, and burglary, according to reports.
