In the most bizarre campaign video yet, Carly Fiorina holds two puppies close to her face and informs them, "Ya know, President Obama ate one of your cousins."
The former Hewlett-Packard CEO turned GOP presidential candidate also cheerfully confesses to having eaten dog biscuits as a child.
And she jokingly complains she's been compared to Cruella de Vil, the infamous Disney villainess who kidnaps Dalmatian puppies for their fur.
The two-minute video is so weird that
Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri asked, "Did the script just read, 'Have Carly Fiorina interact uncomfortably with dogs for two minutes?' … The question is less "how was this made" than 'WHO ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN?"'
Produced by the Independent Journal as part of a series to show the lighter side of the presidential candidates, the video — which has gone viral — begins with the title "Why Dogs Are Better than Cats With Carly Fiorina."
Fiorina is seen sitting on a couch, interacting with a half-dozen dogs of different ages and breeds, and telling two puppies: "Ya know, President Obama ate your cousin. Vote Republican'' — a reference to the commander-in-chief's confession that he ate dog meat as a young boy in Indonesia.
She also chews on a bone, telling another dog, "I always used to eat Milk-Bones as a kid. I thought they were very good.''
And she tells the canines she can use them for debate practice and names each after her competitors.
Lastly, Fiorina tells one dog how somebody compared her to Cruella de Vil from "100 Dalmatians," griping, "That is totally unfair." She then adds with a twinkle: "Although your coat is exceptionally soft.''
Fiorina briefly befriends a cat, but dogs hog most of the screen time in the video, which is accompanied by a goofy, cartoon-like music track.
But it will likely take more than an appearance with furry friends to pull Fiorina out of the doghouse with voters. She is currently in seventh place among GOP candidates, tying with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, with 2.3 percent, according to a Real Clear Politics average of national polls.
