Country singer Charlie Daniels said Thursday that "America is in the middle of a full-blown constitutional crisis," in a column for CNSNews.
"If [President Donald] Trump or any of his cabinet or official associates are guilty of colluding with the Russians or any other foreign power, I want them charged and punished," Daniels writes.
"Conversely, if the Obama administration, the Hillary Clinton campaign, the FBI, the Justice Department or any other government entity, past or present is guilty of obtaining a [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] FISA warrant under false pretenses, being instrumental in helping the Russians obtain 20 percent of our available uranium …
"iIf the DNC [Democratic National Committee] is guilty of stacking the deck against Bernie Sanders or any other candidate, if there has been a quid pro quo policy in Hillary's State Department or Loretta Lynch's Justice Department, I also want to know about it, and I want them charged and punished."
He adds that "if there is ever to be any more trust between we the people and the U.S. government, there has to be a special counsel appointed to investigate the goings-on on the Democrat side, and not some Potomac political hack, but a total outsider, whose politics are not so rigid as to make him or her partial in the undertaking."
Special counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed to lead the investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, has served in various government positions for decades, including Director of the FBI from 2001 to 2013 under both Republican President George W. Bush and Democratic President Barack Obama.
"America is in the middle of a full-blown constitutional crisis," Daniels writes. "There's smoke on both sides of the aisle, and the fire needs to be located and every iota of scandal on either side brought out into the sunshine of public scrutiny for the people to understand and judge for themselves."
