More than a week after President Donald Trump's controversial visit to a church across the street from the White House, a new poll reveals that most Americans do not see him as a man of faith.

The results of a new Politico/Morning Consult poll indicate that just 27% of registered voters see Trump as religious.

Other key takeaways:

  • 55% of conservatives said they think Trump is religious.
  • 9% of liberals said they think Trump is religious.
  • 34% of all Christians said they think Trump is religious, with 20% of non-Christians saying the same.
  • 23% of Catholics and 40% of evangelicals see Trump as religious.

A short time after police used force to clear Lafayette Square of George Floyd protesters on June 1, Trump and other members of his administration walked from the White House to St. John's Episcopal Church. He held up a Bible and posed for photographers while standing outside the historic building that opened in 1816.

The following day, First Lady Melania Trump joined her husband for a visit to the Saint John Paul II National Shrine.

The poll was conducted from June 6-7 among 1,992 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
