Obama Enacts More Climate Change Executive Actions

By    |   Wednesday, 17 June 2015 11:55 AM EDT

President Barack Obama is planning more executive actions that target climate change and encourage investments in green energy.

The White House is launching the Clean Energy Impact Investment Center at the Department of Energy, which will "make information about energy and climate programs at the DOE and other government agencies accessible and more understandable to the public," according to statement released Tuesday.

In addition, the IRS will establish guidance and rules to encourage nonprofits to invest in clean energy technologies as well as improve financing options for small businesses looking to adopt greener methods of doing business, The Daily Caller is reporting.

The White House hosted a Clean Energy Investment Summit on Tuesday, revealing a plan by independent groups such as major foundations, institutional investors and long-term investors to spend $4 billion on "climate change solutions."

The organizations involved include a variety of groups such as the University of California, Goldman Sachs and the Sierra Club.

"Thanks to past investments, consumers are already benefiting from breakthrough technologies developed by our nation’s world-class researchers and entrepreneurs," the White House said.

"We’ve seen major advances in solar photovoltaics, wind power, advanced batteries, energy-efficient lighting, and fuel cells — and the cost of solar energy systems has plummeted by over 50 percent in the past five years alone," the Obama administration said.

"We must continue investing in these kinds of innovations if we are to maintain our leadership in reducing carbon pollution while also growing the economy," it adds.

According to The Daily Caller, the Obama administration has a goal of getting other countries to join the United States in a global climate treaty before the president leaves office.

"If I can encourage and gain commitments from the Chinese to put forward a serious plan to start curbing their greenhouse gases, and that then allows us to leverage the entire world for the conference that will be taking place later this year in Paris," Obama said in an interview with VICE News in March.
