The Clinton Foundation replaced its CEO on Friday.
Eric Braverman, a friend and former colleague of Chelsea Clinton at the McKinsey & Co. consulting firm, was appointed to lead the Clinton Foundation in July 2013.
The Foundation replaced him on an interim basis with Maura Pally, a former top aide to Hillary Clinton when she served as secretary of state. Pally was named senior vice president for women and youth programs.
The Foundation gave no reason for Braverman’s departure and praised his work as the chief executive officer, according to a statement issued jointly by former President Bill Clinton, the former First Lady and Chelsea Clinton, the vice chairwoman of the group.
But
Politico reported Friday that Braverman “was struggling in recent months, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the foundation’s internal workings.” The website added that a change in leadership was anticipated before Hillary Clinton made an expected announcement to run for the Democrat nomination for president.
Under Braverman, the Foundation landed in controversy in New York where members of the city council complained that the non-profit was involved with a scheme that is squeezing poor tenants out of affordable housing, according to
Cran’s New York Business.
In September, the council members called on the Foundation to end its association with Airbnb, which provides hotel rooms for AmeriCorps workers.
The council members sent Braverman a letter calling Airbnb "the leading operator in the illegal hotel industry that is exacerbating the affordable-housing crisis in New York City."
The company has dismissed the council’s accusations.
