CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo has come under fire for telling his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, that he will “never be objective” about him, and that he’s “the best politician in the country.”
Chris Cuomo, who hosts “Cuomo Prime Time,” told Gov. Cuomo: “I’m wowed by what you did, and more importantly, I’m wowed by how you did it. This was very hard. I know it’s not over. But obviously I love you as a brother, obviously I’ll never be objective, obviously I think you’re the best politician in the country. But I hope you feel good about what you did for your people because I know they appreciate it."
Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, whose mother-in-law and father-in-law both died in a New York nursing home during the coronavirus pandemic, hit back at both Cuomos shortly after the interview.
“At least [Chris Cuomo] admitted he’s not objective, and I guess the giant cotton swab wasn’t appropriate this time,” she tweeted. “Your bro still has the highest death toll in any state and his name is still on the order that forced [COVID-19] into nursing homes killing thousands. You’re both awful.”
CBS Denver’s Jim Benemann tweeted, “Okay Chris Cuomo. We know you love your brother, but the gushing is getting a bit uncomfy (sic).”
Reason editor-at-large Matt Welch wrote, “Only four countries (including the U.S.) have as many Coronavirus fatalities as the state of New York.”
Journalist Yashar Ali added, “This has been an issue for sometime now, but it's getting way out of hand. The Governor isn't facing a critical line of questioning . . . I don't blame Chris, that's his brother. But that's why he shouldn't have been allowed to go on his brother's show after the 1st or 2nd appearance.”
