CNN: Facebook, Twitter Accounts Hacked

Thursday, 23 January 2014 09:43 PM EST

CNN, the cable news network owned by Time Warner Inc., said it deleted some postings on its social media accounts after they were compromised.

The accounts affected included CNN’s main Facebook account, its politics Facebook account and its Twitter page, the network said in a statement on its website yesterday. A posting regarding China’s sale of U.S. Treasuries and its policies for the South China Sea were among those deleted.

“We have secured those accounts and are working with the affected vendors to remedy the issue,” Penelope Heath, a Hong Kong-based spokeswoman for CNN, said by e-mail today.

Some of the posts said that the Syrian Electronic Army was responsible, CNN said in its statement.
