Matt Damon Slams Obama: He 'Broke Up With Me'

Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon says his love affair with President Barack Obama is finally over.

"He broke up with me," the once ardent supporter and campaigner for Obama told the Black Entertainment Network (BET) in a recent interview.

The A-list movie star and Democrat said there were "a lot of things" he questions about Obama's second term, specifically the legality of drone strikes and the NSA's secret surveillance programs.

"Jimmy Carter came out and said we don't live in a democracy. That's a little intense when an ex-president says that," Damon said, adding that Obama "got some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor."

It's not the first time Damon has expressed his disappointment with the president. In 2011, he made headlines when he famously criticized Obama's first-term, even though he supported his election in 2008.

In the BET interview, Damon also reflected on the trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. He said he's hopeful the case will prompt a reassessment of "stand your ground" laws in Florida and elsewhere that give individuals the right to use deadly force to defend themselves if they feel threatened.

"I lived in Florida for five years," he said. "We can't have a world in which people are putting guns in their pockets and walking around looking for — and thinking they are the neighborhood watch. We have a police force for that and so we should leave the novices at home."
