Report: Donald Sterling Calls Obama 'Flippant'

Thursday, 15 May 2014 01:55 PM EDT

Disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling denounces President Barack Obama’s "bad judgment" for attacking his racist remarks in a new audio recording obtained by the Daily Mail.

Sterling said the president was being "flippant" by condemning him, while he also vowed that he would fight to keep his basketball team, the newspaper reported.

"That was such bad judgment on his part to make a flippant comment from Malaysia," a man believed to be Sterling said on the recording, the Mail reported.

While Obama was in Malaysia last month, he called Sterling’s racist comments "incredibly offensive" during a news conference, Politico reported.

He added, "When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don’t really have to do anything, you just let them talk. And that’s what happened here."

Sterling was secretly recorded by his former friend, a model who uses the name V. Stiviano, making the incendiary remarks.

Last month the National Basketball Association banned Sterling from the game for life for his tirade while also fining him $2.5 million and saying that it planned to force him to sell the team.

In the new audio recording, Sterling said he plans to fight the fine all the way to the nation’s highest court.

"Well let’s see if the Supreme Court of the United States — and they’ve done this to baseball players — feels that it’s excessive, that it’s unfair, they’ll reduce it," he said.

"You can’t force somebody to sell property in America. Well, I’m a lawyer, that’s my opinion. I’m not gonna let anybody take over my team.

"If you talk to a girl, and you say something wrong ... so they should take away for life your team because you said the wrong thing to a girl?"
